According to a recent study conducted by SimilarWeb, 65% of the ecommerce traffic in the UK came from mobile devices in January; the greatest percentage of mobile traffic for any of the countries in the study, beating even the US and India. However, while two thirds of ecommerce traffic is coming from mobile devices, this doesn’t necessarily mean that mobile is the most important platform.
The launch of Magento 2.0 has raised a lot of questions about the future of ecommerce. Is this new platform worth migrating to? Are there any benefits to upgrading from 1.9.x, given the potential teething problems and the lack of certain extensions and themes? What does the platform have to offer to someone who is currently deeply invested in a different ecosystem?

Google has announced that it is planning to discontinue text ads on the right hand side of the page on search results. The intention is to display up to a maximum of four text ads above the organic listings, and three more at the foot of the page. This means that the total number of text ads per page will be just seven, contrasting sharply with the eleven that appear when the right rail is included.
Magento continues to be the target of hackers; this time they are trying to exploit people who have not yet patched certain vulnerabilities, and asking them to install a fake patch.
The fake patch is being promoted in relation to a real vulnerability known as the Shoplift Bug. This bug has a real patch, SUPEE-5344, which was released almost a year ago. However, there are a large number of sites that have not yet installed the patch, and this means that attackers have the potential to compromise thousands of Magento online stores.

Magento Commerce, the developer of the Magento ecommerce platform, has released Magento Commerce Order Management (COM), a new omni-channel product which will help businesses to manage orders more effectively.
COM is intended to help merchants and brand owners to enjoy smoother order fulfilment, and to deliver a best-in-class experience. The solution is designed to connect both supply and demand-side channels, and to collect information from both, in order to facilitate the level of choice and optimisation required to maximise profitability for each order.
According to a recent survey conducted by 1010data, retail ecommerce sales grew by almost one third during 2015, while in-store sales for most categories have remained relatively flat. Interestingly enough, one of the sectors that has seen significant growth is that of consumer packaged goods, or CPG.
Earlier this week there was some chatter about Google testing new algorithms. While this early speculation of a new algorithm roll-out proved to be false, there does appear to be some testing going on in the wild.

Magento Commerce is one of the largest players in ecommerce software, but unless you’re a solutions provider or a webmaster who operates a site powered by the platform, there’s a fair chance that you haven’t heard of it. Outside of the (admittedly large) niche that includes large retailers using the Enterprise Edition and smaller stores powered by the Community Edition, the name Magento is by no means familiar to everyone.
Last month, the Magento developers released a patch for a critical security flaw. This allowed an attacker to inject code into the admin panel of Magento by taking advantage of a cross-site scripting vulnerability in the email address field on the order form of the Magento ecommerce system.
According to Magento, there are more than 200,000 websites that may be affected by the stored cross-site scripting bugs which were revealed by Sucuri earlier this week. There are XSS bugs affecting both the Community Edition and Enterprise Editions of Magento 1.x, as well as both varieties of Magento 2.0.
The Magento project has just published a new security patch which fixes a critical XSS bug that allows malicious attackers to take over online stores. The bug is a cross-site scripting vulnerability which relates to the way in which email addresses are handled in the system.

Magento has just launched a new architecture, which it believes will help to provide consumers with the immediacy that they are looking for when dealing with online merchants. The increasing trend for bricks and mortar store owners to move towards the online space is something that is causing significant changes to the way in which merchants work. And Magento believes that anticipatory commerce is going to be the next major change.
