Google Apps New Features
Google have announced some exciting new changes and updates to the Google Apps Service.
Google have released the new Google Docs App for the Android Platform. As more and more people are using mobile phones for daily tasks it was important for Google to release an App that enabled the user to access Google doc’s when on the move.
With this new app it’s easy to filter and search for your content and have the ability to edit documents. The app also allows you to easily share items with contacts on your phone, right from within the app. The Docs app also allows you to upload content from your phone and open documents directly from Google Mail. One of the coolest features of the App gives you the capability to turn photos into a text editable Google document, using the power of optical character recognition (OCR).
The Google Docs app is currently available in English and works on Android 2.1+ phones. Click here to download it from the Android Market Place.
Discussions in Google Docs
Google have updated comments in Google Docs to facilitate rapid and seamless discussions and integrate with email in an intuitive way. Since there are a number of significant improvements, this update is only available for newly created documents for now. To start, they have improved the discussion flow by adding ownership and edit rights to individual comments. Each comment now has a timestamp and profile picture. Google Docs doesn’t force you to delete comments. Instead, you can resolve comments to remove them from the visible document and view them later by clicking the discussions button at the top of any document.
Google Apps Directory Sync
The Google Apps Directory Sync has been updated with some new features to improve the synchrosation process between LDAP servers such as Microsoft Active Directory or Lotus Domino.
The new features include:
- OAuth based authorization
- Test connection to Google Apps
- Calendar resources synchronization
- Improved performance
- Several bug fixes
