Get your mobile website up and running
A couple of months back Google today released findings of a smartphone-user study that the company did with Ipsos OTX at the end of 2010. The sample consisted of 5,000 US adults who owned a smartphone and accessed the mobile internet. Google found that there’s heavy smartphone usage at home. The survey found that 93 percent of smartphone owners use their phones within the home. Thirty nine percent said they used their smartphones “while going to the bathroom” and approximately 20 percent would give up cable TV before their smartphones.
The survey also found that 81 percent of users “browse the internet” and 77 percent of smartphone owners use mobile search.
Google also says that 9 out of 10 mobile search users have “taken action as a result of a mobile search, with over half leading to a purchase.”
With this in mind I would say that it’s time to set up your mobile website. Actually – this is easier than one might think; you can simply use one of those automated systems offered by many companies that simply auto format your current website for a mobile screen (so no reason not to do it).
Secondly – get to know mobile marketing. A soon as you finish reading this get out your smart phone and muck around. Buy something small online. Use Google voice search, download the Starbucks mobile payment app and use it. Get your feet wet and your hands dirty (metaphorically of course!)
Start a mobile ad campaign…don’t worry, it won’t cost a fortune. You can purchase them on a PPC basis. Go to Admob by Google and they will take you through the process step by step.
Pretty cool, huh? So in a really short space of time you have become a mobile ad genius! But seriously – it’s not all that complicated, it’s just like any social media or organic search or e-marketing. Only thing – it’s a smart phone not a PC.
I’m sure that you can think of a lot more to do when you get into it so – good luck.
